Our organisation exists for the interests of all water users in South Africa. There is a place for everyone to be part of our family whether it’s by simply following our stories, volunteering or funding a project. Whichever way you choose to engage, we will value it dearly and honour your support with discipline, and integrity.
We value your trust in what we do.

Earlier this month, Rescue 4, a new Offshore Rescue Craft (ORC) built for NSRI Station 4, Mykonos, went into the water for her sea trials – the final proving ground before she begins saving lives off the West Coast. Worth R52 million together with her brand-new base, Rescue 4 represents a generational investment in maritime safety. Through the Celebrate a Life campaign, supporters can now be part of every launch.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has launched Cars4Good 2026 – a national fundraising and awareness campaign designed not only to support rescue readiness, but to help South Africans better understand how drowning prevention works long before an emergency ever happens.

Cape Town’s summer coastline is renowned worldwide for its blue waters, consistent winds, and big-air heroics. But beneath the beauty lies the kind of power that commands respect. Following the tragic passing of South African kiteboarder Graham Howes, his family and the NSRI have launched a fundraiser for a new rescue vessel in his name. The initiative honours Graham’s adventurous spirit while creating a legacy that will continue saving lives along South Africa’s unforgiving shores.

NSRI celebrates 5 years of investment in volunteers and announces a permanent station by December 2026.

When Nina Russell tells you she’s turning 100, she does it with a sparkle in her eye and a laugh in her voice. “I never think about age,” she says. “I literally never think about age. I just take each day as it comes, ups and downs. Mostly, though, I think I’ve been lucky in my life.”

The NSRI is proud to announce a valued new partnership with The Bed Centre, marked by a generous R100,000 donation in support of lifesaving operations and drowning prevention initiatives across South Africa.
