The NSRI has an important relationship with Government through its national, provincial, district and local institutions and with State-Owned Entities.

As the only nationwide sea and fresh-water rescue service we provide an essential service to South African citizens and foreign nationals on South African waters.

We fulfil our mandate through formal service agreements across the country providing rescue, education and lifeguarding services. Our active partnerships show great impact, yet much opportunity remains to extend our relationships and services with Government and SOE’s to fulfil our vision of making South Africa a water safe nation.

We are proud of our relationships.

• Together with the Department of Transport - through SASAR (SA Search and Rescue)- ACSA and Disaster Management we provide official rescue services to the transport, shipping and aviation industries through medivacs and standby services.
• Working together with SAMSA and MRCC, the NSRI executes on their mandate to provide safety and rescue across the maritime industry.
• In municipalities across the country our teams provide Water Safety Education programmes in disadvantaged schools and communities. We also provide essential Lifeguarding services in a growing number of municipalities throughout the year.
• We work with the Department of Tourism to boost our Pink Rescue Buoy programme for emergency floatation at dangerous water locations.
• The National Lotteries Commission have made a substantial contribution towards our Survival Swimming programme, teaching children in disadvantaged communities the skills that will save their lives when they find themselves out of their depth in water
